Los Angeles & Independence Railroad Depot - 1888106 viewsThis 1888 photo shows the depot of Southern California's second railroad, the Los Angeles and Independence. Originally a steam railroad, it began carrying freight and passengers between Santa Monica and Los Angeles in December, 1875. The line was later the Santa Monica Air Line, carrying electric trolleys until 1953. Diesel locomotives moved freight on the line until the 1980s.

123 viewsIn 2007, Alan Weeks was uncertain of the exact location of this picture he took during the May 9, 1948 excursion: He said it could have been the Sunset Spur. But it also could have been at the Anawalt Lumber company (Pico & Sepulveda Boulevard) or east leg of the "Y" near Talamantes Junction.

Eastbound on the Santa Monica Air Line at 11th Avenue siding - September 25, 1953104 viewsAlan Weeks photographed Pacific Electric Railway car 5125 eastbound passing the 11th Avenue siding.
About the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus train on the siding, he wrote in 2008:
"They used to have the circus every year at Washington and Hill Streets. They would put a huge tent up on vacant land.
Billy Graham had his first Tent meeting there in 1949. I know because I attended the meeting at age 17."
